Kate Halliwell

I thoroughly enjoy encouraging schools, nurseries, ITE students and communities to think about their thinking. I support them to recognise the benefits of thinking, listening, feeling and speaking together alongside an understanding of the moves they can make to enable them to do this successfully. As a qualified teacher, specialist visiting lecturer, coach and accredited trainer in Philosophy for Children and Communities (with Thoughtful) and Thinking Moves (with DialogueWorks), my sessions are built on the belief that good thinking is a shared experience and that philosophising should be as playful and as accessible as it is thoughtful. Many of my projects reflect both my creativity and my commitment to inclusion. Amongst other things, I coach nursery practitioners to nurture rich, dialogic talk with 2–4-year-olds (The TWiTCH Project), facilitate community workshops with young adults with autism, and project-manage an annual Late event at Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery. Here, philosophy spills into every gallery space, inviting people to explore big ideas connected to the exhibitions in imaginative, surprising, and deeply human ways.
